Custom Epidemiology Case Studies
Find out how we’ve helped our clients with custom-built epidemiology models for a range of diseases and different use cases

Business Challenge
A leading global pharmaceutical company sought to quantify the market opportunity for a prophylactic treatment aimed at preventing recurrent anaphylaxis. The assessment needed to span five key markets — the USA, France, Germany, the UK, and Japan — and evaluate multiple market access scenarios based on combinations of anaphylactic trigger type, patient age group, and recurrence history.
Methods and Key Outcomes
Partnering with real‑world evidence (RWE) data providers and a specialist pharma consulting organization, Epivantage identified high‑quality datasets across several countries, including medical and pharmacy claims (US, Germany) and emergency room admission datasets (US, UK). Epivantage developed tailored study protocols for each dataset to estimate the incidence of anaphylaxis and the likelihood of recurrence.
Using insights from these RWD studies — combined with findings from a physician survey and a systematic review of published literature — Epivantage built a dynamic, interactive forecast model in Microsoft Excel, supported by a comprehensive study report.
The model enabled users to size the market opportunity across a wide range of access scenarios in each country and to profile the eligible patient population with precision. Equipped with this evidence, the client gained clearer direction on optimal future trial designs and regulatory submission strategies.

Business Challenge
A pre clinical biotechnology company developing a drug candidate targeting RAR α gene overexpression in high risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) needed to accurately size the US market opportunity for this highly niche patient population.
Methods and Key Outcomes
To address this challenge, Epivantage conducted custom analyses using two high value datasets: the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) cancer registry and the International Working Group (IWG) dataset.
Insights from these analyses were integrated into a 20 year epidemiological forecast model, alongside findings from a systematic literature review and primary market research.
Beyond estimating the core high‑risk MDS population of interest, the model quantified:
{ text-indent: 50px; }
- The size of the lower‑risk MDS population
The number of patients who are down‑staged or up‑staged when comparing clinical versus molecular risk classification systems
Annual AML transformation events
State‑level MDS incident cases across the US to support trial site selection and field force planning
This project was delivered through a collaboration between Epivantage and Reach Market Research LLC, providing the client with a robust evidence base to inform strategic planning, clinical development, and future commercialization pathways.
